In December 2016 in Mundgod, India, Geshe Ngawang Chokyi became one of the first women to be bestowed with the prestigious Geshe degree by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Until recent years, women had been precluded from studying for the degree, so Geshe Ngawang Chokyi, along with 19 other women, made history on that day.
We are honoured that she has accepted our invitation to reflect on her incredible journey as part of our International Women’s Day programming. We are especially happy to connect with Geshe Ngawang Chokyi, as she is the niece of FPMT and Jamyang’s founder, Lama Yeshe.
